Malaric
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Amalaric (or Malaric, Galician: Malarico; in Portuguese, Amalarico) was the last king of the Suevi in Gallaecia (latter Galicia), after the deposition of Andeca, of the family of Miro, rose to save the failing independent state from Visigothic (and Arian) dominance. He was defeated and captured by troops of Leovigild, the Visigothic king, in 586, only a year after the defeat and capture of Andeca. From this time onwards, Suevi resistance died out and the Visigothic dux (duke) in the region maintained the laws traditional to the area, pacifying the otherwise fiercely independent people.
