Malagueña (genre)

The Malagueña is a typical folk music from the venezuelan east. In this sort the mandolin is the main instrument, simultaneously that the cuatro and the guitar serve as companions. It is characterized that this songs are sad and melancholic in tribute to the Virgen del Valle, although also it can express historical events, loving feelings, and daily experiences of the town. Traditionally, in the Eastern states like Nueva Esparta, Monagas, and Anzoátegui, the malagueña accompanies the velorios de cruz de mayo, (religious celebration, that is celebrated in May 3 in honor to the christian cross).
