Makrana is a town in the Nagaur district of Indian state of Rajasthan. Makrana is famous for the marble mined from the mines around it. It is said that the Taj Mahal was built from Makrana marble. Makrana is a small town, but it has plenty of marble outcrops. Most of the residents in this town work as marble miners. There are many mines located in Makrana.
Not surprisingly, most of these mines do not have access to the electrical supply. The miners have to use gasoline to operate down in the mines. However, the city is well linked to railroads and other forms of transportation.
The city has ample number of hotels with prices starting from Rs 75 a day. Telephone facility is quite good with almost all mobile operators like Airtel, Hutch, Relience,Idea,Tata Indicom having their towers stationed out there.
It is a heaven for geologists with the rich mineral reserves and an excellent place for selling your mining machinery. With nearly 600–800 mines present the place offers a huge market potential for these companies.
The Albeto quality of marble is known as one of the best in the world.
