Makrai

Makrai is a formerly princely state of India. It was under the administrative authority of the Central Provinces and Berar until 1933, when it was transferred to the Bhopal Agency subdivision of the Central India Agency. The state covered an area of 401 square kilometers and had a population of 16,784 in 1892. Its rulers were styled “Raja”.
It is famaous for its dense forest, the place Makrai is situated on a Hill covered by a river called Sayani Nadi. It has many famous spot one is Nagjhiri ( It is a natural small well in bank of River situated on near top hill in which the water is flow whole the year automatically. other place are Mankameshwar Mahadev (Situted in a cave), Sule Baba Ki tekri (Hill Of Sule Baba) famous for Triabal God and it is the toppest and coolest place in makrai, Bunred Palace, Kaidi Ki Babdi (where the prisnores are used to rench water from river on the hill to supply in that Prince state. The NathJi are used to worship their God Bhilat Dev and Shiv Ji. There is two famous melas one on Shivratri & other is on eve of Holi the villagers and tribals gatherd there. There is an another Mela organised every year By the name of Bhilat Dev at Malapur near Sirali. Its run for one month. before to start this mela the Nathji (Pandit) used to go barefoot and keep the tipara (cloth Trunk) on head from Khudia to Tapti River Bank Betul distric at distance about 200 km in hotty summer to wash the bhiltdev worshiping cloths and thesame way they return it takes fixed seven days .The main thing is since the hundreds of year the on the way the tippara is passed people from that village wait for the tipara on their fixed day at every place on return they organised a mela. The principality was founded by Maratha Rajah Devi Shah in the 1850s. After Indian independence in 1947, the rulers of Makrai acceded to the Union of India, and the principality was incorporated into the state of Madhya Pradesh, which had been created from the former Central Provinces and Berar.
