Makkal Kural Tamil daily was started in 1973 by M Shanmugavel(MS). This evening paper was famous for it's explosive stand against DMK rule in Tamil Nadu at that time. Firebrand editorials of MS and TRR were historic at that time. On seeing the populrity of this newspaper MGR who had launched his own political party AIADMK to cross sword with DMK patronised Makkal Kural and that led to popularity of this newpaper even in nook and corners of every village in Tamilnadu. Makkal Kural was the first to install high speed web offset machine, later was the firstever in South India to go for computerised DTP in the late 80's. In 1995 this group also started an English eveninger, Trinity Mirror.
