Makeup sex is an informal term for sexual intercourse which may be experienced after conflict is resolved in an intimate personal relationship. This conflict may range from a lover's tiff to a relationship breakup. In the popular imagination, sex under these circumstances is imagined to be especially gratifying and invested with special emotional significance. It is sometimes conceived as a physical expression of reconciliation and rediscovery of one's partner following the cathartic experience of a fight.

Like so many elements of human sexuality, makeup sex has achieved a prominent place in popular culture, and is frequently mentioned (usually in a humorous vein) in discussions of relationships. On an episode of Seinfeld, for instance, Jerry asks George if he and his current girlfriend had makeup sex after their fight, to which George responds with characteristic bewilderment and anger, having been unaware of the practice. Jerry rubs it in, telling him "The only thing you're gonna have better than makeup sex is conjugal visit sex."
