The Makati Science High School (Makati Science [formal] or MakSci [informal]) is a special public secondary school that empowers its teachers and students to create an academic community that promotes collaborative teaching and learning through its special science and technology curriculum. ^[1]

It is located at Osias cor. Palma and Gabaldon Sts., Brgy. Poblacion 1200 City of Makati.

Jejomar C. Binay, the officer in charge of the then Municipality of Makati, established the Makati West High School on June 16, 1986, at Mayapis Street in San Antonio Village to serve the elementary school graduates of barangays La Paz, Palanan, Pio del Pilar, San Antonio, and Francisco Benitez.

On August 21, 1989, the school was placed under the supervision of the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports (DECS, now the Department of Education or DepEd) through the efforts of Mrs Teodora A Tongko, then the school's principal.

The school was renamed as the Makati Science High School and was allowed to implement its current Special Science and Technology Curriculum by Director Esperanza Orlina, DECS-NCR Director IV, in 1994.

Three years later, on January 25, 1997, the Makati Science High School moved from Mayapis Street to its new building at Osias Street in Barangay Poblacion. Its four four-storey buildings were blessed and inaugurated on December 10, 1997. Since that day, the Makati Science High School has established itself as a seat of learning not only in the City of Makati but also in the Philippines. ^[2]

The Makati Science High School Special Science and Technology Curriculum has been enriched in Science, English, Mathematics, and Computer Education.

• In Science and Technology, four additional subjects are added per year level:
  • First Year: Earth Science
  • Second Year: Environmental Education
  • Third Year: Introduction to Physics
  • Fourth Year: Organic Chemistry
• In English, four additional subjects are added as well per year level:
  • First Year: Developmental Reading
  • Second Year: Advanced Reading
  • Third Year: Effective Communication and Technical Writing
  • Fourth Year: Journalism and Print Media
• The same goes for Mathematics:
  • First Year: Statistics
  • Second Year: Trigonometry
  • Third Year: Analytic Geometry
  • Fourth Year: Differential and Integral Calculus
• First and second year students also take Library Study.
• Third year students also take Research Practicum as an added subject.
• Fourth year students also take CAT (Citizenship Advancement Training) and study the French Language. ^[4]

• For public elementary schools in the City of Makati:
  • An incoming freshman must belong to the Top 10 of the graduating pupils of the school as of the third grading period. This must be certified by the school's principal.
• For private elementary schools and public elementary schools outside the City of Makati City:
  • An incoming freshman must have grades of 85 percent and above from the first grading to the third grading periods in the following subjects: English, science and health, mathematics, Filipino, HEKASI, EPP, MAPEH and CE/GMRC.
  • Add-on subjects like computer education may have a grade lower than 85 percent, but not less than 80 percent. ^[5]
• Applications would undergo screenings. After which qualified applicants would go through an admission test. Those who passed the test would then undergo a final interview to be conducted by the guidance counselor, apointed saff and fculty members prior to enrolment.
• A 60:40 ratio (Makati Public:Private/Outside of Makati) shall be observed in admitting freshmen based on the results of the examinations.
  • For Makati Public Elementary School applicants, they must not only pass the entrance test given by the school but must also belong to the top ninety (90) passers.
  • For Makati Private Elementary School applicants and schools outside of Makati, they must not only pass the entrance test given by the school but must also belong to the top sixty (60) passers. ^[6]

• The Makati Science High School represented the Philippines in the World Robot Olympiad for three consecutive years: 2004, 2005, and 2006.
• Represented by Jon Sithli Paras Mendoza, Makati Science emerged as the grand champion in the 2004 Digital LG Quiz Year 4 Grand Finals.
• Makati Science is the home of 2002 Metrobank Outstanding Teacher Mrs Erlinda De Guzman-Antaran.
• Makati Science ranked third in the National Secondary Assessment Test (NSAT) conducted by the Department of Education through the National Education and Research Center in 2002.
• It also topped the National Achievement Test (NAT) in the National Capital Region twice in a row in 2005 and in 2006.
• The Makati Science High School, through The Makati Science Vision, has published two books, The Makati Science Vision Manual of Style and Usage in 2004 and the Spark of Hope: The Makati Science Vision Anthology of Student Essays in 2005. Both were written by Mr Alixander Haban Escote, The Makati Science Vision adviser.
• The Makati Science High School, through The Makati Science Vision, has produced three Teodoro Valencia Outstanding Student Journalists in the National Capital Region in the person of Anna-Marie S M Villa, 1999, Ivy Mae C Vitanzos, 2002, and Don Michael A De Leon, 2006.
• Makati Science is also the home of the Best School Paper Adviser in the Philippines in 2004 and one of the 17 Outstanding School Paper Advisers in the Philippines in 2007 in the person of Mr Alixander Haban Escote, The Makati Science Vision adviser.
• Through the leadership of Mrs Ma Luisa H Larcena, Makati Science is the home of the Internation Education and Resource Network - Philippines, publishing A Vision: An Anthology of Student Writings in 2005 and in 2006.
• Represented by Reinzy C Colle, Eian Christian A Sy, and Luis Alfonso Teofilo O Santos, the Makati Science emerged the grand champion in the 2005 AMA-IT Olympiad.
• The school sends exchange students to the United States of America, France, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, China, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

• Makati Science High School students receive a monthly stipend of PhP750, given by the City Government of Makati.
• The school has two student publications: Ang Kadluan and The Makati Science Vision.
