Majunu (2001) is a Tamil film directed by Ravichandran. The film stars Prashanth, Rinke Khanna, Sonu Sood, Raghuvaran, Nassar, Rati Agnihotri and Vivek. The film's score and soundtrack are composed by Harris Jayaraj. The film was a surprise hit in 2001. Vasanth(Prashanth) falls in love with Heena(Rinke Khanna), who lives in Calcutta and is on a visit to his college. Meanwhile Vasanth's father Gajapathy(Raghuvaran), an MP, is the target of terrorists and under a peculiar set of circumstances, Heena becomes the prime suspect after an attack on his life. Vasanth hides her in his own house before packing her off to Calcutta. But when he goes there in search of her, she is forced to refuse to acknowledge her feelings for him.

The film opened big in Tamil Nadu and within a week the producers were looking at profits. It was a surprise hit at the box office, it raised business for Prashanth and the soundtrack was an even bigger success. Raised approximately 25 crores.

Punjabi actress Rati Agnihotri got her start in Tamil Nadu and was a huge star in South India from 1979-1981. She left to act in Hindi films in 1981 and became a huge star there as well. However, by 1985, she retired from films to get married and start a family. This film marks her welcome return to South India after a 20-year absence.
