Major Sanderson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Major Sanderson is a minor character in Joseph Heller's classic novel Catch-22.

Sanderson is a psychiatrist who visits Yossarian in hospital. Sanderson is neurotic, convinced that people are acting out of strange ulterior motives and mocking him behind his back. Yossarian's rational behavior convinces Sanderson that Yossarian is mentally unstable and unfit to fly more combat missions (compare with Doc Daneeka's Catch-22 statement). However, Yossarian had switched beds with a young warrant officer, A. Fortiori, who is accidentally sent home in Yossarian's place.
