Majke

Majke is a Croatian hard rock band from Vinkovci.
Founded in 1988 in Vinkovci, Majke ("Mothers" in Croatian) is just one of the many bands to appear in a city that had a particularly vibrant rock and alternative scene. All that came to a crashing end in 1991 with the outbreak of the war and Vinkovci becoming one of the battlefields. Majke was the only band to survive, mostly thanks to its frontman Goran Bare who was the only constant member of the band.
The band gradually grew in popularity, culminating in 1997 when it had a major concert in Zagreb and received many prestigious critics' awards.
In 1999 the band took active part in a campaign for the 2000 parliamentary elections, playing on the election rallies for the coalition of Social Democratic Party of Croatia and Croatian Social Liberal Party. Its song Vrijeme je da se krene ("It's Time To Move") was adopted as the semi-official anthem of the younger supporters of those two parties.
In Spring 2000 the band announced its split, but some concerts were held in 2001 due to contractual obligations.
