Maithils- People who originate from the eastern Indian state of Bihar (Dharbhanga, Madhuvani, Janakpur) and some parts of eastern Nepal. This area was known as the kingdom of Mithila, a Kingdom written about in Hindu folklore and is the Birthplace of the Goddess Sita. The common language between these people is Maithili. Due to migration and geographical location the number of these people are declining. Maithils come from a culturally rich and ancient society who have created great works of Maithil literature. Food is a ery important aspect of a Maitil's lifestyle. Their diet includes grains, many types of fresh water fish and occasionally goat. Mustard seeds and mustard oil are very common ingredients in Maithil cuisine. These ingredients give their cuisine a unique taste unlike any other cuisine in India.
