Maine's 1st congressional district

Maine's first congressional district is the smaller of Maine's two congressional districts, covering the southern coastal area of the state.

The district is currently represented by Democratic congressman Tom Allen.

Maine used to be part of Massachusetts. Massachusetts had been allocated 20 districts after the 1810 census. When Maine became a state in 1820, 7 of those districts were credited to it.

Since then, all but the 1st and 2nd districts have become obsolete.
