Main Railway Station, Bratislava
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Main Railway Station (Slovak: Hlavná stanica) is the main railway station of Bratislava. It is located at the northern edge of Old Town, near Šancová street.
The first station building, now serving as headquarters of the railway police, was built in 1848 as a terminus for lines Vienna - Gänserndorf - Bratislava and Břeclav - Bratislava. The second building was built after constructing track to Budapest and is used to this day. The third building was built in 1988 as an extension to the existing second building.
At first, the station was also a freight railway station, but as the passenger traffic grew, freight loading stations were relocated elsewhere.
Trains from this station are leaving to Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, southern Slovakia, and to the main Slovak track to Košice via Žilina.
