Main Force Patrol
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Main Force Patrol was the fictional Australian Federal Police special task force featured in the film Mad Max. Its purpose was to support the regular police in combatting organized crime, especially motorized criminal gangs. It was also to generally support the regular police and perform highway patrol functions on the transcontinental highways. Civilian slang for MFP officers is "Bronze", due to the bronze badges they wear. (A memorandum overheard in the Halls of Justice actively discourages this nickname)
However, it is quite evident throughout Mad Max, that the MFP is poorly funded and run down. They operate out of a dilapidated complex of buildings known as the Halls of Justice. Prisoners are generally held with shackles and officers have been known to use weapons, such as sawn-off shotguns, not generally sanctioned for police use. At one point, due to the red-tape of the legal system, Captain "Fifi" McAfee tells his officers that "so long as the paperwork's clean, you boys can do what you like out there". This possibly implies why the MFP don't come after Max when he goes on his vengeful rampage, although radio messages do mention a rogue officer taking a Pursuit Special.
[edit] Fate of the MFP
The fate of the MFP after Mad Max is not known.
According to some rumours and source from fans of the movie there is a deleted scenes where the remaining Toecutter gang went to the hall of justice and had a gun battle with the MFP. Both side ended up with heavy causalties (hence the reason why the gang all of a sudden looked smaller than the original number during Max vengence and why there are no mention of other MFP member). This supposed scene took place right after Max killed off the first group of bikers (the bridge crash scene).
