Main Central Road

The Main Central Road (MC Road) is the arterial State Highway in the Travancore region of Kerala state, India. It is designated as SH 1 by the Kerala Public Works Department. The highway was built by Raja Kesavadas, Dewan of Travancore. The highway starts from National Highway NH 47 at Kesavadasapuram in Thiruvananthapuram city and rejoins the NH 47 at Angamaly in Ernakulam district. The MC Road passes through towns like Kilimanoor, Kottarakkara, Adoor, Pandalam, Chengannur, Tiruvalla, Changanassery, Kottayam, Ettumanoor, Koothattukulam, Muvattupuzha and Perumbavoor. Before NH 47 was built through Angamaly, MC road was up to Karukutty village 6 km away from Angamaly town in the Chalakudy road. MC Road is an easy way for accessing Sabarimala. Also travelling through MC Road, you can save more than 30 km in reaching Thiruvananthapuram, the state Capital[citation needed] . It covers many important towns of Central and South Kerala. Also it shows the beautiful nature and greenery while travelling through MC road which covers most midland areas of Kerala. MC road in some parts are bumpy and there are sharp turns especially between Ettumanoor and Muvattupuzha.

The MC road is being renovated under the World Bank aided Kerala State Transport Project(2006). The upgrading is carried out in two phases. In phase 1, two stretches, Thaikkod (near Venjarammoodu) –Chengannur and Muvattupuzha–Angamaly are taken up for upgrading. In addition a new link to NH 47 is being opened from Thaikkod to Vetturoad near Kazhakkuttom. In Phase 2, the Chengannur-Muvattupuzha stretch will be upgraded. KSTP[Kerala State Transport Project] almost finished Angamali-Thodupuzha stretch.
