Maigraith

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maigraith is a fictional character in Ian Irvine's The View from the Mirror quartet.

[edit] Characteristics

Maigraith is a woman of middle height and quite slender. Her hair reaches her shoulders, is straight and chestnut in colour. Her flawlessly smooth skin, is like palest amber, dripping from a honeycomb and her eyes are a mix between carmen and indigo, marking her as a child of the Charon. It was for this reason that Maigraith drank a drug, disguising the colour of her eyes. Though very beautiful, Maigraith was prone to having a down cast set to her young face. This is mainly due to her upbringing under, her leige; Faelamor.

Though exceedindly gifted in the Secret Art, Maigraith always either uses too little power to early or too much power too late. This is due to her fear of failing in her duty to Faelamor.

[edit] Early Life

Spoilers for first 3 books. Maigraith was kept ignorant of her heritage by Faelamor, her mentor and leader of the Faellem. She was a triune, a double blending, of 1/4 Charon, 1/4 Old Human and 1/2 Faellem; her parents were Aelior, the daughter of Shand and Yalkara, and Faelamor's own son. Such a cruel manipulation of two innocents was anathema to the Faellem, from whom Faelamor was exiled after her son committed suicide. As a consequence, Maigraith spent little time amongst the Faellem, instead living as Faelamor's protege. Completely lacking in confidence in herself and her remakrable abilities, Maigraith was taught at a young age that bending to Faelamor's will was the last lesson every time.
