How wonderful that you have joined our 'virtual group' here! I'm sure your inputs on wikipedia will prove extremely valuble, and I look forward to collaborating with you on many projects. We have several articles, including this and this which may be of particular interest to you; I am sure you will wish to create many more.

We are especially short of images (photographs, portrait images) here, one reason being the stringent rules, set out here, which govern the inclusion of images. It is therefore very fortunate indeed that you are willing to spare some images for use on Wikipedia. The process of uploading photographs on to Wikipedia is extremely simple, once they are available on your computer. Photographs can be loaded on to your computer in two ways:

  1. They can be 'scanned" using a scanner and the image thus created stored in your computer;
  2. If the original photographs were snapped using a digital camera, the image can be transferred to the computer directly.

Once the image is available on your computer, please go to this page, which can be reached through the "upload file" link provided on the left side of every Wikipedia page. Please follow the instructions on the page and the image will be uploaded in a moment. Regarding the 'licensing' tag: in your case, either the 'GFDL self-made' or the 'PD self-made' will probably serve the purpose. In case of doubt, please select 'None' and then message me; I will fix the problem.

This is regarding the Prince Jagat Singh page which you created earlier today, which is basically a mirror of the Jagat Singh of Isarda page. I presume you favoured the former name and hence created the new page. On Wikipedia, pages are renamed by using the "Move" button on the top of the screen. After this is done, one needs to check the page-links to make sure that there are no double redirects. I am merging the two articles under the title favoured by you, but I think a fresh page-name will have to be resolved upon, since:

  • According to the WP:MOSBIO conventions followed on Wikipedia, titles are not to be used at all;
  • The page-name "Prince Jagat Singh" is not unambiguous, since there are others known by the same name

Thank you for the reply. You are certainly right about 'Jagat Singh of Jaipur' being unambiguous, since the two Maharajas of Jaipur who have been known by that name can be identified by their regnal numbers (luckily there have been two). So there should be no problem on that, in the event of someone bringing up the issue. As of now, we need do nothing on the matter, I think.
I have created a category named "Princely Jaipur" to which you can link any relevent articles or images you create. Of course, pages related to the Cooch Behar or Baroda families need to be organized in separate categories -- and here is a page about HH The Rajmata's great-grandfather, which must fall into a different order of category altogether! There is a lot to be done on all these pages (for instance, the page about Babu Keshub Chunder Sen makes no mention of the connection to Cooch Behar or Mayurbhanj, leave alone Jaipur or Bastar), and your inputs in all this will be invaluable. I havn't learnt how to Wikify yet, and I would appreciate if some one could assist me in doing so. I am particularly refering to the article of Vibhavadi Rangsit which needs to be wikified.

Just wondering if you had yet had time to look into the question of photographs. We have several articles regarding HH Maharaja Man Singh II and his family, but not a single image. Nor indeed of HH Maharani Indira Devi. I am sure you will agree that photographs will enliven all these pages. Regards, ImpuMozhi 22:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanx for the message -- the images you have added are really nice, with the quality that comes from photographs that have not been posed for. I have resized and captioned them, and you can now make changes as you like by editing that page.
Regarding Copyright: since the WW-II image dates to before 1946, one can arguably use the {{PD-India}} copyright tag, since photographs in India are copyrighted only for 60 years after publication. The other image (darshan) has been published in a 2001 book. This need not mean that the photograph is owned by the publishers. Was it loaned to them from the personal collection of the royal family? If so, who is the formal owner of the photograph? If it belongs to you or a near one, there are appropriate licensing tags available. Otherwise, it appears that the image will be deleted in a week's time. Again, if that photo was snapped before 1946, we shall have no problem.
These copyright issues are precisely the reason why we have no images at all of this celebrated family, a situation that can be remedied only by you. A single wedding photograph would brighten up several pages, especially if it includes HH Maharani Indira Devi and members of the Jaipur family (such as First HH and Second HH). There are images galore on the web, but none on Wikipedia, which is very particular about not violating copyright. There is good reason for this caution: any images released from personal collections to Wikipedia come into the public domain and can be used anywhere, anytime by anyone. I am not sure that this is known to you. There is little use that anybody can make of a photograph, but it is something that you should know. Best regards, ImpuMozhi 15:26, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

While uploading Prince-Rangsit1.jpg, you claimed that you were the creator of this image. This photograph was taken during the reign of Rama VI, nearly a hundred years ago. While assumming good faith, I must ask you to provide your credentials as the creator of the image. Patiwat 22:19, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

The same applies to Rangsit3.jpg and Rangsit-Mountbatten.jpg. Are you really the creator of those images? If not, please note the source as well as the license. Copyrighted materials can still be used in wikipedia (with some conditions), but images must contain a correct source. Patiwat 22:23, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request image of King Bhumibol

Hi there! I've got a favor I'd like to ask of you. I'm heavily contributing to the King Bhumibol article, which is currently being evaluated for Featured Article status. Problem is, the editors don't have any free license photographs of the King. One of the photos that you scanned from the book on Prince Rangsit had the King in it (the photograph on his wedding day), but it is a sideways shot that doesn't show the King's face very clearly. I was wondering whether the book contains a more direct image of the King, and if yes, might I trouble you to scan it and contributed it under a free license. Thankyou for bringing the article to my attention. I quite agree with most (but not all) of what the author has stated about Hinduism in Thailand. Apart frmo that I will be sure to contribute to the Hinduism in Thailand article in the near future. Incidentaly I just recently purchased a very interesting work by His serene highness (Mom Chao) Subhadradis Diskul, titled: 'Hindu Gods At Sukhodaya'. Sukhodaya ofcourse being the Sanskritised name of the first Siamese Capital 'Sukhothai'.Maharaj Devraj 05:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
