Mahmoud Al Jawhari

Mahmoud Al Jawhari (born 23 June, 1937) is an Egyptian football coach now coaching the Jordanian National Football Team. Al Jawhari was the coach of Egyptian national team at World Cup 1990 where the Egyptian team achieved the famous draw 1-1 with the Netherlands. However, the Egyptian team made an early exit after drawing 0-0 with Ireland and lost to England 1-0. Then, he resigned after a defeat from Greece 6-1 at a friendly match. Later Al Jawhari returned again to lead the Egyptian team to win the Arab cup in 1992 in Syria against Saudi Arabia in the final 3-2. In 1996, he became the coach of Al-Wehda where he achieved the UAE cup for them then he went to coach Oman national football team but he did not achieve a big success there. In 1998 Al Jawhari was chosen from the best 20 coaches in the world as he led the Egyptian national team to achieve the African cup of nations in Burkina Faso after beating South Africa in the final 2-0 and thus became the only man to win the African cup of nations]] as a player in 1959 and as a coach.[citation needed] Also, he was the coach of Egyptian national team at the FIFA Confederations Cup 1999 in Mexico where Egypt had a draw 2-2 against Bolivia then a 2-2 draw with Mexico at Azetca stadium with an Egyptian team reduced to ten men at the second half however the Egyptian team was crashed harshly against Saudi Arabia and lost 5-1 with three players sent off from the Egyptian team thus he resigned from coaching the Egyptian team. However, he returned again after the failure of the Egyptian team in African cup of Nations 2000 but at that time, Al Jawhari made no real success with the Egyptian team as Egypt failed to qualify to World Cup 2002 and lost to Cameroon 1-0 at the quarter final stage in the African cup of Nations 2002 thus he resigned and went to coach the Jordanian national team afterwards. Al Jawhari also coached the Egyptian giants: Al-Ahly and Zamalek and achieved several domestic victories with both of them including 7 titles for Al-Ahly and 3 for Zamalek.He was elected three times as the best Arab coach at 1989, 1993,1998
