[edit] Reputation

Mahidol University is one of the most prestigious universities in Asia in general and in Thailand in particular. It has been recently ranked 1st by the Thai university league table for 2006, which was conducted for the first time by Thailand's Commission on Higher Education. The result of the table which was released in September 2006 shows that Mahidol University excels all other Thai universities in terms of qualities of both teaching and research. However, there was a dispute that the methodology favored science discipline or medical study in particular. Due to the persistant focus in medical science, it is clear that Mahidol has full professors appointed by H.M. the King of Thailand on academic merits and receives research grants/income from both the government and private sectors more than any other Thai university. It has three huge hospitals, each of which runs independently by three different medical schools and other affiliation with medicare institutes. In addition, Mahidol has also produced research papers published in internationally acclaimed, peer-reviewed academic journals more than all other Thai universities. Most of them are related to medical science and public health. Less wellknown to public domain, Mahidol has other several faculties in the shadow of medical schools, including Engineering, Arts, and business schools.
