Some mention of the fuss over the Laura Spence business? [ -- 195.157.146.246 13:18, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)]
- It was a nonsense PR tabloid fluff piece artificially created scandal designed for Mail readers to wring their hands over. Irrelevent, IMO.

- To James F.: did you know that Magdalen College admission tutor Andrew Hobson used to be head of classics at your high school? :-) Arbitrary username 19:40, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Think it's irrelevant to this page, but was fairly notable from a historical point of view. Miles underwood 16:25, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

- I have created a page on it at Laura Spence Affair. I tend to agree with those who do not think it worth mentioning on the Magdelan page (as Magdelan itself was not the target of the row, more the whole Oxford University), but thought I'd post on here so that - if anyone chose to talk about it - they could be aware of the article's existence in the future Smeddlesboy 13:04, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History
"Magdalen College was founded 1458 in Oxford by William of Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester, originally as Magdalen. New educational ideas of the Renaissance era as well as new methods of teaching were tried out."
Was going to clean up the second sentence and a little research showd that not only was it poor grammar, but that it was lifted directly from the college's website.
My replacement sentence is far from satisfactory and the section far from complete. Perhaps someone who knows something about the college could help?
Also corrected the date per the college's website

[edit] Redirects
I've proposed a change of use for the Magdalen College and Magdalene College pages (currently disambiguation pages) over at Talk:Magdalen College, but it's not yet attracted any comment either for or against. Any thoughts? TSP 17:15, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Current academics include John Stein, but the link is to a different John Stein. The Magdalen one is a physiologist, which the referred to one is a jazz muscian.
[edit] Laura Spence
I would second the above request for some mention of the Laura Spence case. The issue here is not anyone's POV on who was at fault, but simply a question of notability. Government ministers became involved, and the story was all over the mainstream media. Arbitrary username 19:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
