Magic Sword is a side-scrolling arcade game released by Capcom in 1990. The game casts the player as a hero who must journey to and fight through a mystical tower to destroy a magic orb. The player can use a sword or magic, and can also rescue potential allies of various character classes, each of which has its own strengths and special abilities. A port of the game was released for the Super NES, but this version for only is one player. It was also included in Capcom Classics Collection Remixed for PlayStation Portable and Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
The allies who can join the player during the quest include:
- Amazon - attacks with a crossbow in quick but weak volleys of two arrows
- Thief - attacks with a knife and 1-3 bombs; can detect treasure chests that are hidden or booby-trapped
- Ninja - fast but weak; attacks with 2-5 throwing stars that bounce off of walls, ceilings, etc. to hit enemies
- Wizard - capable of strongest attack, but is slow and prone to damage; attacks with spheres of magic that surround him and can be launched in multiple directions
- Big Man - one of the stronger allies; armed with a boomerang-type axe that returns to him when thrown
- Priest - slow and weak; attacks with spheres of holy magic that seek out enemies and do extra damage to undead foes while being granted a temporary barrier
- Lizardman - strong and quick; typically an enemy that can be made into an ally only if the player has a diamond ring as their special item; throws 3-4 swords that cut through multiple enemies
- Knight - strongest ally overall; attacks with 1-3 spears that cut through multiple enemies; found in the upper levels of the tower
The game has been suggested as a spiritual successor to Black Tiger.
