Maggie Barnes

Maggie Barnes (Kenly, North Carolina, March 6, 1882 [according to her family Bible] - January 19, 1998) was an American supercentenarian.
In 1997, however, her family claimed she was the world's oldest person at the alleged age of 117, born in 1880, based on her marriage certificate. In addition, the 1900 census listed her as having been born in 1881, making her 116. Although Guinness World Records decided to give the "oldest person" title to then-116-year-old Marie-Louise Meilleur of Canada (born August 29, 1880), Maggie's age was later verified to be not less than 115 years old.
She is the third-oldest African American on record ever, and still holds the record for North Carolina's oldest person. She died from gangrene at the apparent age of 115 .
