Talk:Madogu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The article is more based on the Japanese version of the anime and uses names taken from the Japanese version as well. But, since this is the English Wikipedia, and since such detailed use of Japanese names can be done in a Japanese version of the same, the article must be anglicized. Awaiting feedback on this. I will carry out a massive anglicization drive on this article in a week. Creator and subsequent editors pls comment. rohith 14:14, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
The following is from both Xandershim and Ariamaki Risenki, co-creators of this article Although we consider your opinion regarding the anglicizing of this article to have merit, I believe a 'massive drive', as you put it, would be detrimental. Actually anglicizing something means changing it and removing the original source, which, for the sake of completion and equality, would be wrong-- Other articles regarding nearly any anime series on Wikipedia use both the English and Japanese names and phrases. I can only suggest that, as opposed to a conversion overhaul, which seems to be your suggestion, that you and I cooperate in instead adding the english names alongside the original ones, although in a vast number of cases, they did not change. Please contact me through my email address, which will be made available on this talk page for the duration of our work together. I would enjoy help, as would Xander. Well, as one week since the original posting of the above statement has passed, I am removing the edit tag until further notice- I will soon italicize or otherwise emphasize the anglicized titles of each Madogu and technique where they were named in the series- if they were never given, I will not insert any non-professional translations myself.
I remain, --Ariamaki The Wiki-Wise 08:05, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, Ariamaki, I never meant "massive", to the root of the word, that is. I wanted to bring to your attention the emphasis on Japanese names. I'd prefer English names being emphasized instead. For Instance, on the section where you give info about the Psychic Devices, English names can be in Bold and Jap names can be in Italics. As you can see, I've already done some edits at the beginning.... rohith 15:07, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- This series has numerous English adaptations, ranging from the Pinoy anime dub, to the recent American VIZ Media Dub, to the VIZ manga translation - therefore particular emphasis of certain English names would be wrong, IMHO, and so therefore I think the original Japanese terms should be used for the terms & devices used in this article, with the numerous translations from the different English adaptations detailed just after its title. For example, in the InuYasha article, the Japanese terms are given preference, such as Shikon no Tama and Tessaiga, and therefore this should be reflected in this entry as well. [edit] Proposal for Completion
I have read all 33 volumes of the manga (comics) of Flame of Recca and I have seen all the episodes of the anime. I can compile a complete Madogou list. Can I get permission to go ahead and do it? WyrmKing 03:03, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
