[edit] History
The name was assigned to the platoon when one of it's members was arrested for nearly killing a man with his own knife, after having been assaulted. This, in conjunction with PFC Billy Redwine's illegally importing switchblades from Germany after a training operation, led to a heated discussion between the Battalion Commanding Officer and the Charlie Company Commander. After being told the platoon was a bunch of "Madslashers" the name stuck, and has been carried ever since. Interesting to note is that Charlie Company, parent unit of the Madslashers was once referred to as Criminal Company, by Bravo Company's First Sergeant, 1SG Folino, a former Madslasher and Canadian Citizen. Folino and Sommer are both from British Columbia.
[edit] Rise to Infamy
The Platoon's membership was launched into the limelight on August 7th, 2006 when three Rangers allegedly robbed a branch of the Bank of America in a "military style" assault. According to the FBI, the Rangers were aided by two Canadian civilians. The Rangers accused are SPC Luke Elliott Sommer PFC Chad Palmer and PFC Alex Blum. Sommer is currently on bail, while Palmer and Blum are being detained at SEATAC Federal Detention Center.
Richard Olinger was arrested for allegedly holding on to restricted weapons for Sommer.
On January 26, 2007 three more Rangers were arrested, including two Madslashers. SGT Paul Pace and SPC Samuel Crino were arrested for their involvement with an assault on a 36 year old black man, which has been labeled as a hate crime. They are currently out on bail awaiting word on charges supposedly being laid on Wednesday, the 31st of January 2007.
