Madogu

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Madogu (魔導具), known as psychic devices or elemental weapons in the English versions of the series, are mystical objects in the fictional anime and manga series, Flame of Recca. They were created by the Hokage ninja clan 400 years before the present time of the series (apparently the late 1990's) using a mixture of scientific, mystic, and natural knowledge. Many of these Madogu break the laws of physics, or at least bend them gently.

All madogu will be listed in this fashion-
Name- Element- User (unless listed under a User with multiple Madogu, all of which belong to them) - Description
Any User headings for multiple Elemental Weapon Masters will be Italicized

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[edit] People who use Multiple Madogu

Fuuko Kirisawa -

  • Fujin (風神 also known as God of Wind?) - A gauntlet containing 4 small stones and a socket for a fifth, which was missing when Fuko obtained it. It allows its user control over, and the power to create, wind.
  • Oni no Tsume (鬼の爪 also known as Demon's Claw, or Claw of the Demon?) - Originally a five-pointed gauntlet that could cut through anything, Fuuko socketed the crystal into Fuujin to perform the technique ‘Kaze no Tsume’ (風の爪), The Claw of Wind
  • Shinryo Shintou- Growth - Originally possessed by Uraha member Hisui, one of the two matching blades was given to Fuuko. This Madogu is a pair of wrist-blade like swords that can be extended and retracted at will.

Domon Ishijima-

  • Dosei no Wa (土星の輪 also known as Ring of Saturn?) - Strength-boosting ring, translates willpower and determination directly into physical power.
  • Kuchibashi Oh- Beak King - Mentally-controlled metal beak on a massive chain. Once mastered, the user can wield it like an extension of themselves.
  • Tetsugan- Iron Ball - Turns the user's body iron when attacked. VERY short duration of use, and it is draining on the users stamina.

Mikoto-

  • Mikoto- Life - A puppet-madogu, a machine being capable of operating separately from its user. There is a compartment inside the Madogu that Mikoto hides in at most times, only leaving if necessary. The Madogu was wearing the Dokumashin, while the user was carrying the Gedokugan.
  • Shirahige- White Beard - A madogu used to replace Mikoto after it is destroyed in the manga, Mikoto-the-Uruha is united with it perfectly on a psychic level of control.
  • Dokumashin- Poison Nails- This madogu is actually ten separate pieces, which are worn on the fingernails. The bladed tips contain a mix of every poison and toxin in all existence, making it near-incurable. There is a way to counteract it, namely--
  • Gedokugan- Antidote Ball- The madogu made to cure the venomous wounds of Dokumashin, it takes the form of several small green pills.

Tsukishiro-

  • Oboro- Hazy Moon - Tsukeshiro- Oboro is a Madogu made purely of cloth and mystic thread, it can make the user invisible by diverting light and vision from them. Unfortunately, if the cloak is soiled, for example, by blood, then it is completely ineffective.
  • Kaigetsu- Ocean Moon - Tsukishiro's boomerang-like sword, a curved blade similar to Persian swords. It is physically strong enough to go blow-to-blow with the Kougan Anki, and has no major power beyond its boomerang throw.

Miki-

  • Idaten- Great Runner - Small, green Madougu placed upon her boots, endowing her with extraordinary speed.
  • Yambiko- A shield mirror Madougu placed at her wrist which can reflect anything, including sound waves. She can use this in conjunction with Neon's sound attacks.

[edit] People who use One Madogu Apiece

  • Raijin- Thunder God- Raiha- A parasitic madogu that allows the user to control and create electricity and thunder. If it needs extra power, it forces it out of the users body, and it is in control of the users body when in use. Even Raiha, the owner, finds it creepy. Its power is negated by Fuujin, which is why Raiha has the central orb of Fuujin.
  • Sekichu- Stone Sphere- Sekioh- A chain-bearing spherical madougu, it attracts stone to one's body, acting as a sort of armor. The stones can also be ripped off and flung with great force.
  • Bakuju- Spellbound- Noroi- A mask-shaped madogu that has been possessed by the soul of its original user. It can fly limitedly, and take over peoples minds and bodies. Once it takes someone over, the decay process begins, albeit slowly and removing someone's memories, so it must always search for new bodies to use.
  • Houmashin- Dread Cannon- Magensha- The madogu that uses spirits of fallen enemies (or comrades, Magensha doesn't care) and fires them at foes. A shot from this gun is invariably lethal, if it connects...
  • Jisoutou- Magnet- Jisho (and Neon near the end the of Manga) - This madogu consists of two swords, the N and the S swords, that have magnetic properties. They are used by throwing one and it being attracted by the other.
  • Magagumo-Foul Spider- Gashakura's retractable 'spider armor', used for simultaneous offense and defense.
  • Koukai Gyoku- Erase - Rasen's weapon, an orb madougu which he places on the bottom of a telescoping baton. When he waves it, something physical disappears forever. However, he must give up something of corresponding value in return... for instance, his mother, his emotions, his ability to speak. It is one of the most evil madougu, in Kokuu's opinion.
  • Tendou Jigoku (heaven and hell)- Death and Life - Mori Kouran- This is the ultimate madogu, because it has the capable power of granting eternal life to the possessor. The form of the person after integration with the madogu is horrific and inhuman, but anyone they consume who had innate capabilities will grant them that power. as such, if the user consumes a Flame master such as Recca or Kurei, they will gain the power of the Flame, and a resistance to it. This will cure Kagero's eternal life, making her a mortal once again.
  • Kotodama- Spirit of Words- Aki's Madougu. She can create illusions with it just by stating what she wants. While that is so, she can still injure opponents with her illusions.

[edit] Madogu with Multiple Powers/Abilities

  • Kougan Anki- The Golden Blade- The Kougan Anki is a 'Puzzle Madogu', one without literal elemental powers. It is capable of taking 5 different forms, and is able to use a mysterious sixth stance called 'Mu'
Kougani Kaoru weilding Mikazuki, the Fourth Kougan Anki form.

  • Kiba- The first, base stance of the Kougan Anki is a large pole-arm type weapon, with grip-handles in the middle, and a large clubbing end on the bottom. The blade is a thicker version of the kind found on a naginata
  • Ryu- The second Stance, the Chain-Sickle, or Kusari-Gama. It is a very potent weapon, capable of disrming, entrapping, or directly harming the enemy.
  • Kyoku- The third stance of Kougan Anki, Giant Scissors. Primarily a weapon made for disarm, against large opponents it can inflict massive wounds.
  • Mikazuki- The Fourth Stance of the Kougan Anki, the Boomerang. When thrown, the boomerang moves through the air so fast that it creates a buzzing noise. It returns to its users hands both after impact, or after a miss.
  • An- Kougan Anki's fifth form: a bow and arrow. The arrows seem to have no apparent storage space, although they are made of the same material as the rest of the Kougun Anki, including the red stones.
  • Mu- The mysterious Sixth form of Kougan Anki, Mu literally means 'Nothing'. When Kougan Anki enters all five of its forms quickly, in order, then the way to make it into Mu is made clear. When it is transformed into this state, the weapon separates into dozens of pieces of the puzzle Madogu, including the main crystal, still attached to the chain. The crystal is thrown at the opponent, and when the user wills it, the Kougan Anki attempts to re-form to the first stance- Causing the bulk of it to pass violently through the opponent.
  • Fukyo Waon- Sound- Neon- A madogu that can store, amplify, and redirect sound waves to cut things, crush them, or cause explosions.
  • Fugue- Neon, of the Uruha Oto, uses the Fukyo Waon in this attack. Fugue is a blast of noise.
  • Prelude- This sound attack is a focused slicing wave of force.
  • Concerto- attack with Miki's Yamabiko to bounce sound from Neon to the target.
  • Rhapsody- a condensed explosive music attack.
  • Requiem- Requiem is the Final Attack which can be used with the Fukyo Waon, as it unleashes all of the vast energy stored in it. It's an attack designed to kill the attacker, the victim, and just about anyone within the general vicinity.
  • Fuujin- God of Wind- Kirisawa Fuuko- All of its many functions involve controlling the Wind, and several of these functions consume Kaze no Kodama (minor stones, of which there were five) or require the Kaze no Toma (main stone, missing through the whole anime series and first 1/2- 3/4 of the Manga.)
  • Kamaitachi- The first thing Fuuko ever uses the Fuujin for, and the power Kage Houshi demonstrates the Fuujin to her with. It uses air pressure to create a very thin path of strong wind, cutting things in its path
  • Whirlwind Technique, No Name- Although this is not so much a skill as a manifestation of sheer power from the Madogu, it is listed for completions sake. A near-impenetrable barrier of wind forms around Fuuko as a large whirlwind, depriving her of breathable air as a side-effect.
  • Hikuu zume- The Flying Nail technique, this requires the Oni no Tsume to be inserted into the Fuujin's core socket. The claws detach and fly at the target, after which they can be controlled by the users will.
  • Kazadama- The Soul of Wind, this is the primary attack of a summoned piece of the Kaze no Kadama. The god-fragment rolls itself into a vortex-gathering ball of wind, and the Fuujin-user flings it at the opponent. Very destructive. Fuuko was able to use it as a wind ball, a wind spread (after hitting the ball with a horizontal gust attack), a wind breaker (wind ball that can break weapons and metals like the giant fan of Mikoto) and its greatest attack, Hayate ("Swift Wind"), a wave capable of destroying anything.
  • Kaze no Tsune- The claws of the Wind technique, the Oni no Tsume is implanted in the Fuujin, causing the front three stones to sprout claws of 'wind'. The claws are actually empty vortices of air, pulling nearby objects apart like a blade
  • Shikigami (paper)- Paper Animator- Saicho- This Madougu is capable of infusing paper with the aura of the user. This paper can then be mentally controlled, transformed, made to move and levitate, and the paper becomes almost impervious to both fire and physical damage. This madougu's power can be augmented by incantations...
  • Fuyo Sword- This technique allows Saicho to transform a spiral of paper into a strong katana. The katana, although paper, cannot be damaged because of how much of his aura is imbedded in the paper.
  • Cyclone Paper Dance- This technique causes Swirling paper strands that can wrap around flames and extinguish them, or use the technique...
  • Kamienbu- Uses the paper cyclone to wrap someone up like a mummy.
  • Nuno Zarashin- This technique creates large spirals of inflammable paper which generate a strong enough wind to deflect nearly any projectile.
  • Thousand Cranes- Misora, Kukai's daughter, made Saicho 1,000 origami paper cranes before he left for Ura Buto Satsujin III. They can fly of their own accord. Each one of these cranes is as strong as several of his normal ones, capable of taking off the roof of the arena of the Ura Buto Satsujin. Saicho planned on using this as his final attack, putting all of his life force into it.
  • Rokka Sen- This technique involves Saicho folding up 6 differently shaped Origami pieces and flinging them at his foe, where they then imbed themselves. Each of the six is named after a famous Japanese philosopher.
  • Ensui- Dark Water- Mikagami Tokiya- The Ensui is the Madougu that controls water in all of its forms. The blade itself is actually formed of mystically condensed and contained water that can cut as if it were finer than steel. When controlled by a skillful enough master, it can use all of the essences of water, including a blade of ice and a giant steam-cloud. The blade uses up water when certain powers are used, and as such can dissipate in deserate situations. The art he studies is, as a whole called Hyomon Ken, and is the main core of his skills.
