Madison West High School is one of four comprehensive four-year high schools in Madison, Wisconsin. It was established in 1930. Its mascot is the "Reggie the Regent," a lion, and its school colors are maize and blue. Athletics compete in the WIAA Big Eight Conference.

Recently, some concern has arisen regarding what several students and parents consider to be a lack of AP classes at West. The school has attempted to justify its course selection options by stating that it has many other electives and therefore does not need more AP classes.
Students
Madison West High School's students come from various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds; however, the majority are from business and professional families. West's student population is 39% non-white, compared to 10% for Madison as a whole. [1] Students at West come from Cherokee, Hamilton, and Wright Middle Schools, in addition to various other schools across the district.
Trivia
- The band Jimmy Eat World filmed the music video for their song, "Work," at West High in 2005.[2]
- The Madison West Boys Cross Country team, led by seniors Andrew Han, Robert Joynt, Eric Lewandowski, Benjamin Swimm, and David Yu, won the team's 1st State Cross Country Championship under head coach Tom Kaufman in 2005. The team placed 5th at the 2006 meet, led by Corey Watts (Sr.), William Bradley (Sr.), James Marsh (Sr.) Andrei Baiu (Jr.), Brett Kelly (Fr.), Scott Klasek (Jr.), and Birken Schimpf (Fr.).
- Since its inception in 1983, competing every year, the Madison West Science Olympiad team has placed no worse than second in the Wisconsin State Science Olympiad Tournament (Division C). The West team has placed first in Wisconsin for the past 7 years in a row, including at the most recent competition on April 22, 2006. The West team has also had success at the national tournament by placing in the top 10 in 3 consecutive years from 1989 to 1991 including 2nd in 1989.
- The band Locksley was conceived in Madison, WI by West High school friends: Jesse Laz (rhythm guitar), Aaron Collins (bass guitar), Kai Kennedy (lead guitar) who replaced Justin or Josh something and Sam Bair (drums). In the fall of 2003, they relocated to New York City.
- Freshman Blue girls Volleyball 2006-placed 3rd in tournament this year, with first thread and top 6 players: Megan Rassmusen, Austyn Turnquist, Kenzie Schmaltz, Kyia Lindau, Nora Hammer and Samantha Classic leading the way.
