Dr. Madhu Omalloor (aka P. Madhusoodanan Pillai), a cartoonist and journalist was born on 28-10-1954 at Omalloor, Pathanamthitta District in Kerala. Cochin University of Science and Technology awarded him a Doctorate degree in Newspaper Management. He has more than 25 years of experience in journalism in editorial positions and as [cartoonist]] in leading dailies and journals in Malayalam, English and Hindi. Kerala Pathrika, Desabhimani, Chandrika, Kerala Kaumudi dailies in Malayalam and Business Observer-English daily, Yuga Dharma-Hindi daily, Southern Economist-English weekly are some among them. His political cartoons were widely used for campaign in the general elections of Lok Sabha and Assemblies. He had contributed cartoon advertisements for the promotion of Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation’s Maveli stores and their products like Sabari tea for the first time in Kerala. His cartoons were exhibited in world campaigns like that of ‘Friends of Tibet’. He is the recipient of Dr. Ambedkar Fellowship in 2002 and Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Award, 2005 constituted by Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy, New Delhi, for his literary and journalistic contributions especially focused on the downtrodden.[citation needed] He was the member of Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy, Kerala Union of Working Journalists, Vice-Chairman of Kerala Cartoon Academy, Joint Secretary of Kerala Cartoon Academy, Founder Director of Shri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust, and President of Kerala Equestrian Club.[citation needed] He served as Director State Resource Centre and Director Jan Shikshan Sanstan under Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, Chairman, Advocacy Committee of IT @ School, Government of Kerala, and Coordinator Mahatma Gandhi University Off Campus Academic Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.
