[edit] End of the Carpenters
To promote Made in America, Karen and Richard Carpenter appeared on several talk shows in 1981 [1], including Good Morning America on August 10, and The Merv Griffin Show on October 2, performing "(Want You) Back in My Life Again". Karen was noticeably emaciated during both appearances, as she was seriously ill with anorexia nervosa at the time. The illness eventually took her life on February 4, 1983, making Made in America a bittersweet end to the Carpenters recording career.
