Made Of Stone is a single from The Stone Roses' eponymous debut album. It was originally released in February 1989 eventually peaking at #90. There was renewed interest in the band after "Fool's Gold" exposure and the single was re-released in 1990 when it reached #20 on the UK chart.

The song is about painter Jackson Pollock's death in a car crash and how he had a wife and a mistress, the latter also dying in the accident in 1956. He was also given a namecheck in the b-side "Going Down" in the line "There she looks like a painting, Jackson Pollock, number five".

Pollock's 'drip and pour' paintings were a big influence on the cover art guitarist John Squire was producing at the time, as well as the band's musical instruments.

The band made their debut on national British tv by performing this song on BBC's cultural show The Late Show in September 1989, resulting in a power cut 40 seconds into the song and Ian Brown infamously walking off shouting "Amateurs!".."[1]

The song was used during some of the road trip scenes in the 1997 American movie, Heaven Or Vegas

B-side "Guernica" is Made Of Stone in reverse, but with forward lyrics.
