Machynys, or Machynys Peninsula is a coastal area in south Llanelli that has been transformed beyond recognition since 1960. [1] It is now home to the Machynys Peninsula Golf & Country Club which hosts the Ladies Championship of Europe Welsh Open. [2] Alongside the golf course there is development of a New England style of housing which is adjacent to the miles of beaches in the Llanelli area.

The Llanelli Millennium Coastal Park, which includes the National Cycle Network route 4, runs along the coast of Machynys. There are wonderful views of the Gower Peninsula and the Burry Estuary from along the coast.

Machynys was shown as an island in two maps, more notably in the more recent map of the Stepney Estate in 1761. This was only the case when the tide was out. The land once occupied by a farm, terraced houses and tinplate works.

Machynys lies in the Llanelli Town Council and Carmarthenshire County Council ward of Glanymor.
