Machon Shlomo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Machon Shlomo is a Haredi yeshiva for men located in Har Nof, Jerusalem, Israel. Its faculty and student body are mostly American, and the yeshiva is targeted to American baalei teshuva (Jews who "rediscover" Orthodox Judaism later in life). The Rosh Yeshiva is Rabbi Gershenfeld.
Machon Shlomo provides an intense charedi environment that operates from a "Torah only" philosophy. As contrasted with the Torah Im Derech Eretz philosophy of Modern Orthodoxy, Machon Shlomo generally takes an oppositional stance to secular teaching or culture, while at the same time preparing most graduates for life back in the professional working world based on the prior professional training that characterizes most of the student body. Emphasis is on mussar based character development as well as development of text-based Torah learning skills.
