"Macho Man" is a 1978 disco song performed by the Village People. It extols the virtues of working out and jogging: Every man ought to be a macho macho man / to live a life of freedom, machos make a stand.

The song "bubbled under" the charts during summer 1978 before picking up substantial airplay that August. It became the Village People's first charting hit, peaking at #26 four months before their #1 single Y.M.C.A.

In one episode of animated sitcom The Simpsons, Homer Simpson sang this song as "Nacho Man". In one installment of the daily comic strip FoxTrot, Jason Fox and his friend Marcus sing the chorus over and over to annoy Jason's sister Paige, who grumbles, "I wish I hadn't told you I hate that song." Marcus asks, "Is it 'macho' or 'nacho'?"

In the movie Austin Powers In Goldmember, Goldmember sarcastically complimented Dr. Evil by saying "You look like a Macho Man" and whispers "Village People".

The song is quoted briefly in the P.D.Q. Bach opera, The Abduction of Figaro as a segue into the aria, "Macho Macho".

The song became a gay anthem, and is played comically in many films, like Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, In & Out, Addams Family Values and the Nutty Professor remake.
