[edit] History
Machetazo were formed in La Coruña, Spain in 1994 as a side project of another pair of death metal bands of the area. Initially, they were more noisecore oriented than grindcore. They recorded two demos, 46 cabezas aplastadas por un yunque oxidado" in 1995, and "Realmente disfruto comiendo cadáveres" in 1997. This last one was an international underground success, and in 1999 was remastered by Fudgeworthy Records of United States.
At this point Machetazo stopped being a side project and became a real band, although problems of formation forced them to remain a duet. They recorded their first album "Carne de cementerio" in 1999, published by Razorback Records. After this they released numerous split singles. With Dopi as the sole surviving original member together with the new guitarist Rober, Machetazo recorded their second full length, "Trono de Huesos" (2002). In this work the band gives tribute to the seminal grind sound in a work in the vein of bands like Carcass or Repulsion. After the recording of "Trono de Huesos" Machetazo completed their first stable formation of all their career, that still exists today: Dopi (drums and vocals); Carlos "Cadaver" (bass and vocals); and Rober (guitar).
After testing this formation with a pair of singles, Machetazo published their third full length in 2005, "Sinfonías del Terror Ciego", a concept album about the Spanish film maker Amando de Ossorio. This record brought them to a wider audience than ever before and 2006 was a year of intense touring and projects. They released a split single with Total Fucking Destruction on the American label Relapse Records in 2006.
[edit] Members
- Dopi: Drums and Vocals
- Carlos "Cadáver": Bass and Vocals
- Rober: Guitar
[edit] Trivia
They are largely unique amongst extreme metal bands in that drummer Dopi also performs lead vocals, even live, where he uses a microphone mounted on a stand over his hi-hat cymbal (rather than a headset mic, the common choice for drummer/vocalists).
[edit] Labels
Machetazo have published material mainly in two seals: Razorback Records has published its three albums on CD, while the Asturian labell Throne Records itself os responsible for the editions in LP of the same.
But Machetazo has also seen its works published on many small underground international labels, like Al Pacino Records, Scurvy Records, First Blood Family, Frigidity Records, Goryfied Productions, Hells Headbangers, Irony Records, Last House On The Right Records, Relapse, Sterilized Decay Records and Upground Records.
