[edit] MacDade Mall

MacDade Mall was one of the first enclosed malls built in the Philadelphia suburbs. The community mall boasted year-round "electric comfort" in the enclosed climate controled structure. When the mall opened in the fall of 1969, the original anchor tenants were Woolco and a Super Saver food market. The original Eric two screen Eric Theater was expanded to four theatres in the 1980's. Woolco was replaced with KMart and the Super Saver was converted to Acme Markets.Other tenants included Wee Three Records, Hallmark, Orange Julius, and Thrift Drugs.

The original interior design included two fountains and a center court with a stage. The stage was used for special events such as the annual Easter Bunny and Santa Claus visits. Musical performances and children's shows were also held in the center court.

In 1987, the mall underwent a major remodel and emerged with new ceilings, new tile floor, and a new colorful neon trimmed external facade.

The mall played host to many events throughout the years including job fairs, model train shows, and the Little Mr. and Miss MacDade Mall competition.

As leases expired in 2005 and 2006, the mall declined to renew leases. Many 30 year tenants were forced to find new locations. Only four stores of thirty five remain in 2007.
