[edit] History

MacGregor State High School was opened in 1969 with nine teachers and 203 students. The first school principal was Mr. J.E.R. Pearson. The school was named for Sir William MacGregor, governor of Queensland from 1909 until 1914. The Clan MacGregor's Australian Chieftain, Mrs Jean McGregor-Lowndes, was its first patron, and many of the school's icons and emblems reflect a Scottish theme.[1]

On 4 November 1973 at 6:30 pm, a tornado struck the school, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage and requiring the rebuilding of much of the school. [1]

[edit] Gang Violence

There has been a increasing rise in ethnic gangs from Asian, European and Middle-eastern origin. All of which engage in criminal activities within and outside the school grounds. These gangs situated at Macgregor State High School have been noted to group in numbers of up to a hundred for protection, however they do this with the intent to intimidate other rivalry groups rather then fight them. There have been reports of students engaging in "One On One" fights in the alleyway which leads up to the Garden City Shopping Complex, this area has been attended to by police on numerous occasions throughout the past decade which illustrates the magnitude of the siltation. The school has implemented stricter policies to ensure that these "Vigilante" students are apprehended and dealt with in a orderly manner. [1]
