Ma'anit ( 32°27′N, 35°02′E;Hebrew: מענית) is a Kibbutz in northern Israel near the town of Pardes Hanna-Karkur, in the Menashe Regional Council. Located near Wadi Ara (Nahal Iron Hebrew: נחל עירון), it was on the frontline in Israel's 1948 War of Independence, and was attacked by the Iraqi Army. Its name refers to the first furrow ploughed in a field. The analogy was presented in Abraham Hertzfeld's speech about settlement in the area in which he saw its establishment as being the first of many. In fact the locality of Ketzir-Herish (Hebrew: קציר, meaning Harvest, and חריש, meaning Plowing), whose name also played into the agricultural theme, was founded soon after.
