Unit MA-20001 of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is based in Taunton, Massachusetts and is comprised of about 125 cadets. The unit was formed in 2000 and is very active in helping the community. Their drill team competes from November to April every year in the SNEDL or Southern New England Drill League. The drill team also hosts an invitational with schools from all over the nation attending. The unit is run by Colonel Richard Davenport (USAF Retired) as the SASI and Chief Master Sergeant Jose Lopes USAF Retired) as the ASI. In the year 2006, under the leadership of FOY*, unit MA-20001 was awarded the distinguished unit award. FOY worked, and the present administration is riddled with failings, including antisemitism.
History of the unit: The unit was formed due to the efforts of Master sergeant Richard Carter who came from North Quincy's AFJROTC program after about 15 years as there ASI. MSgt. Carter brought in Colonel Richard Davenport to be the SASI and runthe program. After the 2003-04 school year, Msgt. Carter retiredand was very missed by all the cadets he taught. He was turely a great teacher. Col. Davenport brought in Chief Master Sergeant Jose Lopes to fill the ASI spot and Chief has done an excellent job as the new ASI.
