M. Kayveas

Datuk Dr M. Kayveas is a prominent Malaysian politician and president of the People's Progressive Party (Malaysia).

He was born on April 29, 1954 in Benta, Kuala Lipis, Pahang. He is married to Datin Blanche Oleary.

Kayveas became president of PPP, a component member of the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional, in 1993. Today, the PPP is 300,000 strong with a network of over 3000 branches throughout the country.

He is the current Member of Parliament for Taiping constituency. Previously, he was a senator in the Malaysian bicameral parliament. Kayveas was conferred the title of 'Datuk' by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on June 1, 1996.

He is currently a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, which is a ministry by itself. Kayveas responsibilities as a deputy minister includes:

  • Pardon's Board
  • Legal Affairs Division
  • Legal Aid Bureau
  • Public Trustees (Amanah Raya Berhad)
  • KL Regional Centre for Arbitration
  • Department of Insovency Malaysia
  • Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court
