M. F. Thatherton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

M. F. Thatherton is a character on the animated series King of the Hill, originally voiced by Burt Reynolds and in later appearances by Toby Huss. A mustachioed, womanizing, gambler and drinker, Thatherton is a former employee of Strickland Propane who struck out on his own and opened up Thatherton Fuels across the street from Strickland. His character is a foil to Hank Hill.

Unlike rival Strickland, Thatherton uses underhanded methods and lies to sell his natural gas and accessories. In the episode "The Company Man", when Hank introduces him to an oil representative that thinks of Texas stereotypes, Hank dubs Thatherton as "the only man ever to be censured by the Texas Propane Gas Association for conduct unbecoming of a propane distributor." Thatherton once bragged that he sold propane to nursing homes by telling them it was oxygen.

[edit] Trivia

  • Thatherton and business rival Buck Strickland play a game of poker each week. Buck usually bets the services of his lowest-selling employee, Joe Jack, although one episode resulted in Hank being traded instead.
  • Every time Hank Hill sees Thatherton, he angrily exclaims "Thatherton!".
