[edit] French castles

I notice you made some edits to some of my pages on French castles and added some more to the List of French castles page. Many thanks for that. Somehow, I took on that page when I noriced that many of the entries there were not actually castles, but palaces or even vineyards - the problem from translating the French word château. Since then, I have slowly but surely translating as best I can suitable articles from the French wiki - a massive task (and getting bigger now you've added more!!). From your user name and looking at a list of your contributions, it appears that you also interested in French culture, so, if you have the time and the interest, how about joining me in trying to get some more castle pages in the English wiki?

Once again, thanks for your edits - much appreciated. Emeraude 18:29, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I see you've added a translation of Château de Blandy-les-Tours from French. Well done. I hope you don't mind that I made a few changes, in particular to some of the vocabulary. The French use château fort to mean castle, as distinct from other type of château. Donjon is keep in English (dungeon being usually the underground part). Enceinte is best translated, I think, as the English arcitectural term curtain wall and cour as courtyard. Pierre meulière I think is millstone grit or gritstone, used of course for making millstones. I also took the liberty of adding the tag at the bottom to say that the article was a translation from French wiki. Great work - well done. Emeraude 15:51, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Castles list

Thank you - a great holiday. I found some information about many castles in the Hérault departement which is now in Castles in Hérault and Château de Pézenas. (I actually stay in Pézenas several times a year so I know the area well.)

I am still not sure about how to arrange the List. I have kept my version up-to-date, so whatever is decided it should be very easy to merge yours, mine and the original. I have looked at the various French Wikipedia lists - the alphabetical lists are too complicated, but the lists by department and by region seem to be manageable. But which to choose? I think we only need one list. I am beginning to think yours is the easier, but the maps do get in the way. Smaller perhaps? Let's give it a few days and see if anyone else comments. I will also ask for suggestions from the Wikipedia France project and see if they have any suggestions. (See Wikipedia talk:France-related topics notice board.) Emeraude 11:27, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject France

Hello! We are a group of editors working to improve the quality of France related articles. You look like someone who might be interested in joining us in the France WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! We'd love to have you in our project :-) STTW (talk) 13:15, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Cantons of the Seine-et-Marne department is informative, but I feel a template to it, showing perhaps the map would be more interesting, as not all are familiar with geography of France. Perhaps I will try to make a template which would ease up this work. Happy editing, STTW (talk) 19:07, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK!

Updated DYK query On 26 January 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Château de Rochechouart, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

[edit] Castles list

To: User:M-le-mot-dit, User:Kaustuv, User:SlaveToTheWage, Talk:List of castles in France#Organisation of this list, Wikipedia talk:France-related topics notice board#List of castles in France - request for suggestions
List of castles in France: I have looked at the users' suggestions and comments and have made a new draft that I think could be the way forward. It uses the basic format drafted by User:M-le-mot-dit and the sort of layour used in the French Wiki.
My proposal, with notes and explanation is at User:Emeraude/Castles2.
For information, other versions are:

[edit] Simon Waley Waley

Thank you for your edit to this article. However, how do you know that Mr Waley was writing about Auvergne (province) and not Auvergne (region)?--Runcorn 15:07, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Fair enough - thanks very much!--Runcorn 17:10, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
