M-131 (Michigan highway)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

M-131 was a state highway from at least the 1930's to 1979. One segment of it began at US 131 (now M-113), 4 miles north of Walton Junction. It ran east to Fife Lake on what is now M-186, and went over to M-66. It was cosigned with M-66 to Mancelona, then continued through Petoskey and stopped at Cross Village. In 1940, M-131 from what is now M-113 to Petoskey became US 131, with a new stretch of highway built for it from Walton Junction to Kalkaska. The remaining stretch of M-131 was renumbered M-119 in 1979 to avoid confusion with US 131 only a few miles away.

Trivia note: in the 1960's, some road maps mistakenly showed the road from Cross Village to US 31 at Levering as part of M-131.
