From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Møldrup municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Viborg County on the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 212 km², and has a total population of 7, 670 (2005). Its mayor is Gunnar Korsbæk, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Møldrup.

Neighboring municipalities with land connection are Hobro to the east, Aalestrup to the north, and Viborg and Tjele to the south. Its municipal neighbor to the west Skive is separated from the municipality by the waters of Hjarbæk Fjord and Lovns Bredning, parts of the larger Limfjord which separates the main part of the Jutland peninsula from the island of Vendsyssel-Thy to the north, and which define the municipality's western border.

By January 1, 2007 Møldrup municipality will cease to exist, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged, with Bjerringbro, Fjends, Karup, Tjele, and Viborg municipalities to form an enlarged Viborg municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 1,390 km² and a total population of 88,945 (2005). The municipality will belong to the new Region Midtjylland ("Mid-Jutland Region").
