Lyulin (municipality)

Lyulin (Люлин) is the largest residential complex in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It is located in the western outskirts of city and is divided into 10 microregions. The complex has a population of 120,000 and is at the disposal of all kinds of public transport.

Lyulin is a relatively new municipality. The infrastructural work on the complex began in 1971 and the first block of flats was constructed in 1973. Although the municipality mainly consists of standard prefabricated tower block, the concentration of population has led to considerable investments in the 1990s and 2000s, doing much to shed Lyulin's image as a bad place to live in.

The complex is named after the nearby Lyulin Mountain.
