Luther Williams Field is located in Macon, Georgia and the home of the Macon Music. It was built in 1929, and is the centerpiece of Central City Park in Macon. The original covered grandstand is still in place, though a new tin roof has replaced the former wooden one. A black iron gate surrounds the field, the front of which says "Macon Base Ball Park." It was the home of the Macon Braves until the 2002 season, when they left for Rome. The Macon Peaches of the Southeastern League played at Luther Williams, but they the team as well as the league itself folded after the 2003 season.

[edit] History

Luther Williams Field was home to the Macon Peaches of the South Atlantic Association from 1926 to 1983 and the newer team by the same name from the Southeastern League in 2003. The Macon Dodgers of the South Atlantic League played at the stadium from 1956 to 1960; the Macon Pirates from 1984 to 1991; and the Macon Braves from 1992 to 2002. In 2007, it will get another chance as the upstart South Coast League will be putting a team here. The Macon Music will be managed by former big leaguer, Phil Plantier. The General Manager is Ric Sisler. Ric's Grandfater, George, is a MLB Hall of Famer. Ric's Father, Dick, also had a fine Major League Career.
