Lurgan College

Lurgan College is a selective age 14-18 English-medium grammar school situated in the town of Lurgan, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.

The school opened in 1873, originally being situated in a town house in Lurgan town centre. In August of that year a purpose built school building was completed in the outskirts of Lurgan. The original school building is still in use although major alterations and extensions have taken place to expand and modernise the school.

The school currently enrolls just over 400 pupils. Pupils are required to sit their GCSE exmainations in their second year at the school. The school also offers a limited number of places for pupils to return to the school after their second year to sit their AS Level and A2 Level (commonly referred to as A-levels) examinations. The current headmaster of the school is Mr T Robinson, who began his career at the school in September 2005.

The most famous pupil to attend Lurgan College is C. S. Lewis' father. Later, a former headmaster of the school tutored C. S. Lewis himself. The school is currenty in the beginning stages of a new school with the plans made recently but with the old part of the school still incorporated.
