Lumpkin is a city in Stewart County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,369 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Stewart CountyGR6.

(32.049638, -84.795859)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 km² (1.6 mi²). 4.1 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (1.25%) is water.
Elected Officials: Weyman E. (Ed) Cannington, Jr. is the Mayor of Lumpkin, Georgia, first elected in November 1979. Mayor Cannington is Past President of the Georgia Municipal Association. GMA is an organization of elected and appointed city officials through out the State of Georgia.
Council Members: Randy Mathis, Kenneth Seay, Laurence Young, Jimmy Lynch, Jean Beall Armour and Charles Gibson.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,369 people, 552 households, and 367 families residing in the city. The population density was 332.4/km² (862.2/mi²). There were 621 housing units at an average density of 150.8/km² (391.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 28.85% White, 70.42% African American, 0.29% Native American, and 0.44% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.66% of the population.
There were 552 households out of which 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.4% were married couples living together, 26.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 28.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $22,315, and the median income for a family was $27,321. Males had a median income of $22,422 versus $20,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,146. About 24.2% of families and 26.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 35.7% of those under age 18 and 18.3% of those age 65 or over.
