[edit] History
We were first introduced to Sheridan while she was living in Paris. She was engaged to Jean-Luc Moulin who comes from a long line of suitors to date Sheridan to gain access to her family's vast riches. After learning Jean-Luc's true intentions, Sheridan decided to return home to Harmony.
She is the daughter of Alistair Crane, a world famous billionaire, who secretly built up his empire through a network of crime. When Sheridan was a young girl, she found a man covered with a bloody sheet in her family's living room. She also has vivid memories of stabbing someone, and getting blood all over her hands. Sheridan, as a result, cannot enter her family's living room without having a mental break down. She is also known to sleepwalk during times of great duress.
On her way over to the mansion on Raven Hill, Sheridan was pulled over by Officer Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald for speeding. At first he only wanted to fine her, but he had her placed in jail when she tried to bribe him. Luis held a personal grudge against the Crane family (he suspected Sheridan's father, Alistair Crane, to be behind the disappearance of his father approximately fifteen years prior), and wanted her to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Sheridan tried to fight the ticket in court but was sentenced to six months of community service at the children's center. She planned to bribe her way out of community service as well, until she learned that Luis was the head of the children's centre. As much as Luis disliked Sheridan, he wanted to make sure she didn't weasel out of her sentence.
Sheridan and Luis grew to dislike each other after this. Often being sighted in public squabbling with each other. In some instances, they would try to show up one another. For instance, Sheridan and Luis tried to see who could tango better by dancing with each other at his mother's birthday party. Through their shared time together, Luis and Sheridan's chemistry became apparent to almost everyone except them.
While working at the children's centre, Sheridan got involved with Hank Bennett, the police chief's younger brother and Luis's best friend, causing several hit-men of the French drug cartel to target Sheridan. Luis was appointed Sheridan's private bodyguard by the FBI. Both Sheridan and Luis objected to the arrangement at first, but Luis decided to put his job ahead of his personal feelings. Sheridan could not do the same and would often put herself in dangerous situations trying to distance herself from Luis.
One of the assassin's eventually caught up with her, and Sheridan was shot in cold blood - just as Sheridan and Luis finally had come to terms about their feelings for each other. Luis, was needless to say, very heartbroken.
Many months later, around Christmas time, Luis got a Christmas miracle: Sheridan. As it turns out, Sheridan's death was faked by the FBI in an effort to thwart her enemies. Luis and Sheridan were finally free to be together and thus got engaged.
Sheridan's father, Alistair Crane, did not approve of their relationship however. Luis suspected Alistair of having something to do with the disappearance of his father, Martin Fitzgerald, and as Sheridan's husband, would dig into Alistair's secrets looking for proof. Also, Sheridan was convinced that her nightmares were somehow connected to Martin Fitzgerald's disappearance. Believing Martin to be the man under the bloody sheet from her nightmares. Alistair could not afford Luis or Sheridan learning any of his nefarious business dealings, so he forbade Sheridan to be with Luis.
When she and Luis continued to date, Alistair hired an actor, disguised as Luis, to trick Sheridan into thinking Luis was only using her for her money. Luis and Sheridan caught the double and accused Alistair and her brother Julian of trying to break them up, but were unable to prove it.
Since he was unable to break them up, Alistair decided to resort to murder. He laced Sheridan's wedding band with a quick-acting poison activated by her DNA. Luckily for Sheridan, the ceremony was in a double wedding with her ex-nephew Ethan, and Luis's younger sister Theresa. Ethan's mother didn't approve of her son's marriage to Theresa, and obstructed the service by crashing her car into the church. Sheridan and Luis decided to reset their wedding date, but went onto their honeymoon anyway.
While on their honeymoon, Alistair had a boat they rented rigged with TNT. Sheridan was tragically caught in the explosion upon detonation. When her body was recovered, Alistair made sure she was cremated, so that she couldn't return like she did from her last death.
Sheridan was later resurrected by good witches Grace Bennett, and Charity Standish. They were able to restore her body to this world, unwittingly channelling their hidden magics through prayer. (Either that or Alistair purposely had a dummy cremated so everyone would stop looking for Sheridan's real body.) Sheridan was rescued by a fisherman named Brian, having only vague memories of a past life she shared with Luis on the titanic.
Sheridan, now going by the name "Diana," was taken to live with Brian at the island B&B where he resided. There, the pair fell in love, and worked to help Sheridan uncover her past. At the same time, Sheridan tried to get Brian to return home and reunite with his estranged family.
Based on her memories of her past life in the Titanic, Brian and Sheridan were able to deduce that they were indeed soulmates. (After Luis drowned on the Titanic, Sheridan and Brian fell in love and had a family) This prompted the pair to get engaged.
When Sheridan ran up a gambling debt at a casino trying to raise money for and Brian's wedding, Brian decided to return to his former profession as a racecar driver and win enough money to pay off their debt. Brian managed to win the race, but his car was totalled in the process. In the hospital recovering from the accident, Brian learned that he was slowly dying, and at Sheridan's insistence, decided to make an attempt to return home and make amends with his family before passing on.
As it turned out, Brian was actually Antonio Brian Lopez-Fitzgerald. Luis's older brother, who disappeared shortly after their father. When Sheridan came face to face with Luis, all of her lost memories came flooding back, and she realized that she was engaged to two people at the same time!
During Sheridan's absence, Luis had grudgingly gotten engaged to his ex-flame, Beth Wallace. But while he was quick to end things with Beth, Sheridan wasn't able to do the same with Antonio. She feared that telling Antonio the truth would cause him to die prematurely, and in true soap opera fashion, began sleeping with them both behind each other's back.
Shortly after marrying Antonio, Sheridan found herself pregnant without any real clue as to who was the baby's father. To make matters worse, Luis's ex, Beth, kidnapped her, and held her hostage in a pit for months until the baby was finally born. Beth then promptly stole Sheridan's baby, to pass off as her own child, and dumped "Sher-Sher" in the harbour to drown.
Sheridan was rescued by Luis, but felt such a strong connection to her own child, whom Beth named Marty, that she was able to recognize him instantly. In spite of the fact that she didn't actually know who her kidnappers were. Sheridan was temporarily placed in the psyche ward for her beliefs.
Upon her release, Sheridan decided to finally confess her feelings of Luis to Antonio, and the truth about their presumed-dead baby's questionable paternity. (Antonio's terminal illness was cured shortly after their marriage.) Antonio used her beliefs about Marty to have her recommitted to the mental hospital, in a misguided attempt to win Sheridan back. He believed that by keeping her separated from Luis, he could get her to fall in love with him all over again.
Sheridan's father in the meantime took advantage of her confinement to have her brainwashed into believing that she truly loved Antonio. Luis was unable to accept the new Sheridan, and when she and Antonio grew tired of Luis's harassment they made plans to leave town. Sheridan at the last second remembered her true love for Luis (of course), causing Alistair to run them out of town via a series of assassination attempts that killed Antonio in the cross-fire.
The duo decided to lay low for a while, and went to Puerto Arena where Luis's youngest sister, Paloma, lived. Luis decided to convince her to return home to America to essentially cheer up their mother. While there, they met a local couple, the Wheelers, who had helped his Aunt Maria raise Paloma.
Paloma had developed a deep resentment for her family for sending her away as a baby. It took much persuasion to get her to return to her American home. Paloma finally agreeing only if she could take the Wheelers with her.
The Wheelers had an air of familiarity to them, to many of the Harmony residents. In spite of the fact the two claimed to have never visited Harmony. Luis ran a secret DNA test on Bob Wheeler that revealed that he was actually Martin Fitzgerald, Luis's long-lost father. When confronted with the evidence, Luis was able to get Bob to confess that he was indeed Martin, but Martin refused to divulge his exact reasons for leaving. (Claiming it to be to protect his family)
Several months later, they were finally able to get Mrs Wheeler to confess her true identity. She was Sheridan's "late" mother Katherine Crane. The mystery of Martin's disappearance and its connection to Sheridan's nightmare's soon unfolded after.
Alistair, in his youth, was rejected by the true love of his life: Katherine's sister Rachel Barrett. Rachel died untimely in a freak boating accident, and Alistair married Katherine as a substitute. But when Katherine learned that Alistair never really loved her, and was constantly cheating on her, she tried to leave him. Alistair however refused to accept it and began raping and beating her to keep her in line. Martin tried to stand up to Alistair on Katherine's behalf, but in a sadistic twist Alistair stabbed Martin in the back with a letter opener causing him to pass out in the Crane living room. (Making him the body Sheridan found.) Alistair promptly made arrangements to have Marting buried, but Katherine rescued him and the duo stowed away in the middle of the night fearing for their lives. Alistair of course faked Katherine's death to cover up her disappearance.
Luis was skeptical of Martin and Katherine's story. Believing that running away from Alistair instead of confronting him was the wrong choice for the two to make. (Which is only ironic considering that he and Sheridan fled Alistair's tyranny the previous year, hiding in Puerto Arena)
Sheridan wanted to rebond with her resurrected mother, however Luis forbade causing a rift in their relationship. A rift that was made bigger by his refusal to believe her increasingly stronger belief in the fact that Marty was her son, and not Beth's.
By the time Sheridan was able to prove her beliefs, Alistair had managed to whisk Beth and Marty out of the country. Sheridan blamed Beth's escape on Luis lack of faith in her, and refused to even speak to him again, if he didn't find her son.
Sadly, Luis apparently died trying to find her son, leaving Sheridan to move on with her life.
Sheridan moved on and after the Harmony Tsunami, and having come in contact with a little boy and his dying mother, she looked after the boy and wanted to adopt him in an effort to replace the kidnapped Marty. Soon after a man named Chris came to Harmony and it turned out that Chris was actually the boy's father. After some time they fell in love, and got married.
Not too long after Luis was found in horrible shape, and was whisked to the hosptial. Alistar had kidnapped Luis while he was trying to find Beth (Although a casket containing Luis's remains was brought to the Lopez-Fitzgerald's home and they all confirmed it was Luis) and Marty, held him and tortued him all the time he had been gone. Sheridan was in a state of turmoil over who to be with, Luis, or her husband Chris. After some lying to "protect" Luis, Chris and Sheridan tell him the truth, that they are married and expecting a child. Luis is left heartbroken, and after several attempts to win back Sheridan, he is faced with the same problem as before he returned, the only way to get Sheridan back is to bring Marty back to her. Off he goes to Rome in search of Beth, during the Vendetta series - unfortunately, both Beth and Marty are killed.
Luis comes back, empty handed and broken hearted. While in Rome, Sheridan's niece Fancy, after just breaking it off with Noah Bennett, became very close while searching for Marty and Beth. Recently, Fancy and Luis have become a couple. Sheridan has admitted to still possessing feelings towards Luis and is currently vying for his affections.
