Russia is considered as one of the possible emerging superpowers of the world. This potential is attributed due to several indicators, the primary ones being its rapidly expanding economy, big deposit of materials, big area and strong army. However the country suffers from many economic problems that it must overcome before it can be considered a superpower. It is also not yet as influential on the international stage when compared to the United States or the former Soviet Union.

Covered 17 million km², 11 time zones; was the largest country in the world. Covered huge sea area, and encompassed vast deposits of minerals and large farming areas.

Permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Strong ties with Western Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States, European Union, Asia.

Russia is currently the world's 10th largest economy in terms of real GDP (PPP) and the 14th largest economy in terms of nominal GDP (market exchange rates), with an annual growth rate of 7,5%.

It has a well trained world's 2nd largest military coming with the world's 2nd largest air force and a naval force.

Had a population of 142,400,000 (2006) was the seventh largest on Earth.
