yo isnt he an android pokemon meaning he could probley be steel/phy?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.183.1.88 (talk) 04:24, 1 April 2005 (UTC)

For now, we can only speculate. Rukario's relation to Wave-Guiding hint at it having a type affiliated to the sea, like Water or possibly Ice. Sinistro 09:52, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)
He is steel/fighting. It seems that the Wave Guiding Hero is the human who used him to save the World. Sonic Mew 14:55, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Article name

I posted this on Wonk619's talk page:

Please stop moving Rukario to Lucario. It does not have an offical name in romaji, but Rukario is more widely used. On Google "Lucario" gets 6,360 hits, (not all of which are relevant), while "Rukario" get 27,200 hits. Additionally, Pokémon Elite 2000 had this to say [1]

Since Rukario has been revealed in Coro Coro, there has been a lot of talk whether the names would transfer to Romanization as "Rukario" or "Lucario." Although both could be correct, it's a matter which one will be used. We may now have that answer.
The official Japanese website for the 8th Pokemon movie has been updated with the new Pokemon's silhouette (the same one we have seen already). You can visit the page here: http://www.pokemon2005.jp/movie/index.html .The filename of the image at the official site for the new Pokemon is named "rukario.gif".
Although this is just a name of a file, we should assume that Rukario will be the name unless official sources state otherwise.

---Sonic Mew | talk to me 19:49, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

As I posted on your talk page, here are some pictures -- the latter two from the official Japanese online store -- to prove that the Pokémon is called Lucario:

Wonk619 20:40, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Also, here's Entry 第4864433号(Japanese) from National Center for Industrial Property Information and Training database. Note that the right-holders (権利者) are Nintendo (任天堂株式会社), Creatures (株式会社クリーチャーズ), and Game Freak (株式会社ゲームフリーク), the three companies behind Pokémon. In addition, the image on the lower right matches the katakana "ルカリオ" (Rukario) with the romanization "Lucario".Wonk619 03:05, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
A few pictures don't detract from my points. I've checked the Wikipedia manual of style, and found this: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names). The convention is summarised as this: "Use the most common name of a person or thing that does not conflict with the names of other people or things." Most websites use Rukario, rather than Lucario, (as the Google test proves,) so the convention here is to use Rukario.
So just leave it be until we get an offical dub name. Sonic Mew | talk to me 13:26, July 20, 2005 (UTC)
Additionally, here is a more defined Google test: Lucario Pokémon gets 4,450 hits. [2], while Rukario Pokémon gets 26,700 hits. [3] Sonic Mew | talk to me 13:39, July 20, 2005 (UTC)
Just because "Rukario" gets more hits on Google doesn't mean it's more accurate than "Lucario". The only reason more people use "Rukario" is because sources that simply transliterated "ルカリオ" are more popular than the ones who actually did the research to confirm that the name, as used on all Japanese publications and merchandise that display the name in rōmaji, is actually "Lucario".
As for the filename "rukario.gif" on the movie website, since it wasn't clearly displayed on the site like the actual images are, they could have easily named it "rucario.gif", "lukario.gif" or even "newpokemon.gif" and it would have made no difference, except in the case PE2K's news article that you quoted above. This evidence is rather insignificant compared to the three pictures (which I reiterate are all from official websites) and trademark filing I provided above.
Lastly, the English names of all legendary Pokémon (except Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres) have matched the official romanizations of their Japanese names -- even ones like Kyogre and Rayquaza -- so I'm already 99.99% certain that this Pokémon's English name will be "Lucario". It's just that these romanizations are not very well known, much less accepted, by most of the fanbase. As such, in accordance with the naming convention you provided, I won't bother changing any articles to say "Lucario" a fourth time. Wonk619 16:56, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
Actually, the general online community uses "Manyula" for the evolved form of Sneasel rather than "Manyuura". Typhlosion 20:17, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
...Which is more of an exception rather than the rule, as I believe the romanizations for ルカリオ(Lucario) and マニューラ(Manyula) ultimately come from the same source(s).Wonk619 00:20, 18 August 2005 (UTC)
Additionally, after I posted a thread on the Bulbagarden Forums about this matter, a few other members offered more proof that the Pokémon's name is in fact "Lucario":
  • One user provided scans from a recent issue of Pokémon Wonderland, an official Japanese magazine: [4][5][6][7][8]
  • Another user provided this image, saying, "Actually it says Lukario... But it's still a good hint."
  • Finally, yet another user said that everything he "won, received or bought at Pokémon Festa, PokéPark and Pokémon Center have "LUCARIO" written on them, too."
Now, if the Pokémon really didn't have an official name in rōmaji -- as Sonic Mew stated above -- then all of the images I provided would either use all different spellings, all say "Rukario", or not use rōmaji at all. Instead, all but one say "Lucario", and that one exception still starts with an "L".
Finally, here are some more items from the offical Japanese online store, all of which are consistent in the way the Pokémon's name is shown in rōmaji:
[9] (other links removed because of tendency to break; see search results on www.pokemoncenter-online.com instead) --Wonk619 00:20, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

Now the official English name is Lucario as the dub title for the 8th movie (which is: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew!) has been revealed [10]. So I suggust leaving the Japanese name as Rukario (as ル and カ are romanised as "ru" and "ka" respectively) and changing only the English name to Lucario. --fnfd 17:18, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pressure

How do you know that Rukario's ability is Pressure. I know a lot of legendary pokemon have the ability... but that is by no means a valid reason to assume Rukario has the ability. (Not only that, but it's mostly the pokemon that were in R/B/Y and G/S/C that have the ability Pressure... newer legendarys have things like Drizzle, Drought, Air Lock and Clear Body. Was it mentioned somewhere that its ability is pressure? Deskana 09:23, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

Changed it to "???", as I couldn't find anything that confirmed it to be Pressure. -Luigi2 | Talk 02:03, September 3, 2005 (UTC)
Just checking... and you didn't. I'll change it. Thanks for confirming that it can't be confirmed! :-P Deskana 21:51, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

it's ability might have something to do with it's wave guiding powers.

-the wobbufet guy.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 59.148.19.113 (talk) 11:20, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

The ability may not have anything to do with the wave guiding, as the animé /movies are often inconsistent with the games.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sahmeditor (talkcontribs) 23:00, 5 June 2006 (UTC).

We now know that Lucario's ability is Humble Heart, although this name may not be correct. It makes Lucario increase speed when flinched. Squareenix 20:59, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] English Name Revealed

Okay, Lucario is the offical name for Rukario in America, so get over it, it's real now! I've already made most of the adjustments to the article with the new name—The preceding unsigned comment was added by ViperSnake151 (talkcontribs) 01:08, 31 August 2005 (UTC).

I have offically moved the Rukario article to the name Lucario, as it now has an offical name now! Seems to have been a sucess, so it is!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by ViperSnake151 (talkcontribs) 01:21, 31 August 2005 (UTC).

Sorry, just to confirm: Nintendo has confirmed that Lucario is the creature's definite, 100% official English name?--NP Chilla 19:59, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Battle statistics

Does anyone have a source for this? I doubt these are official- firstly because I have not seen a source anywhere that has Lucario's battle statistics and not only that, but battle statistics are normally given as base stats, or in percentiles. These are not. Deskana 21:54, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

I don't believe the stats have been released yet. -WindFish 11:42, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] kanji

Hey, the japanese writing of his name is kinda wrong. It reads "Luke Rio" for some reason/ - (unsigned comment by User:24.1.228.73 23:40, 22 December 2005 (UTC))

I'm not sure what you're talking about, as the Japanese writing (which, BTW, is katakana, not kanji) looks fine to me. Wonk619 16:40, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Evolution

Besides the fact that it is steel/fighting? Sonic Mew 21:07, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

i've heard rumors that it evolves from mew.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 59.148.19.113 (talk) 11:21, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

There are a few problems with that, though. First of all, NO legendary Pokémon has ever been able to evolve. I doubt that changes in the 4th generation. Second, if you look, Mew has DNA from every Pokémon. Technically, Mew could BECOME Lucario, but it could also become any other Pokemon, from the pathetic Magikarp to the mighty Jiriachi. ("Mighty" sounds a little strange with a Pokémon that cute, but still...) It could even become man-made Pokemon, like Porygon, Castform, and (ironcially) Mewtwo. It's unlikely that it will actually evolve, since whatever it became, it could probably turn right back into Mew. Third, the reason Mew has all Pokémon DNA is, we think (even the Pokédex isn't sure), that it is the ancestor of all Pokémon. This is why Mew has a passing resemblance to an embryo. I could imagine a pre-evolved form that looked like a bacterium (since bacteria were the very first living things), but any evolution, especially into Lucario, might destroy the common-ancestor theme. Also, their characteristics are very different. Mew is a Psychic type that is able to use any Pokémon move, make itself invisible, and become any Pokémon, while Lucario is a Steel/Fighting type that is able to manipulate the waves that every object emenates. Last but not least, the upcoming Pokémon movie, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, seems to imply that they have a co-star status that seperates them. Both Lucario and Mew are treated as single Pokemon that exist independently. In fact, in one known scene, both Lucario and Mew are in the same scene, so they are different Pokémon.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.174.66.138 (talk) 00:35, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Attack Name

I've noticed a lot of misconceptions going around, all ultimately because of Serebii.net. The name of Lucario's recently revealed attack is called Feint Attack. Not Faint Attack, an already existing move that is named Suprise Attack in Japan (Damashiuchi Koukeki). The one thing Serebii refuses to acknowledge is that the name of the attack is not called "Faint," either. The proof is that the attack is spelled out in katakana and hiragana. フェイント こうけき translates to Feinto Koukeki. Translated, this means Feint Attack. When comparing to other attack screenshots, we see there is NO mention of こうけき in the text unless it is an attack with said name. Example being that in Elekible's attack text, it clearly shows no signs of the hiragana for "attack." It simply says "Elekible's Giga Impact!" which is the Japanese equivalent of "ELEKIBLE used GIGA IMPACT!"

Upon looking up the definition for feint, this is what comes up:

A feigned attack designed to draw defensive action away from an intended target.

A deceptive action calculated to divert attention from one's real purpose.

So this would make a lot more sense to use, as opposed to "Faint," which makes absolutely no sense. Though there is the likelyhood the attack name will change as soon as the games are translated to avoid further confusion between Feint Attack and Faint Attack.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.34.160.108 (talk) 04:26, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lucario: Not a legendary.

It has been (indirectly) revealed that Lucario is not a Legendary. It's Shinou Pokedex number is #113. Dorapion's is #128.

Now, unless Dorapion is a Legendary, and there are at least fifteen different Legendaries in Shinou (Which is highly unlikely), this does show that Lucario is not a Legendary as previously suspected.

This also adds further speculation as to whether or not Lucario is in fact a Basic Pokemon, as in Pokemon Garden, there is a person who mention's it's pre-evolved form.

However, this same lady also said that the starters would be of Fighting, Psychic, and Dark types.

But then again, she didn't say which of the Starters. This could easily mean a combination trio of final stages, such as Grass/Fighting, Fire/Psychic, and Water/Dark. Or something of those combinations. --Sidereal 00:42, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Keep in mind, the legendary dogs came before some regular old Pokémon. RememberMe? 17:04, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes and after the birds/beasts/golems comes the uber line(s) And Dorapion comes pretty far after #113, so it's safe to say that Lucario is not legendary. --63.135.20.33 19:57, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the Legendary Beasts of Johto came before the older Pokemon. However, none of the Johto Pokemon came after them. (By that, I mean after Celebi.) Dorapion is a new Pokemon that comes -after- Lucario. This more or less proves that Lucario is -not- a Legendary.

Keep in mind, that with every new Generation, a new Pokedex list is given. This list starts with the new starters of that region, and ends with the Legendaries. After Johto, they simply took every Pokemon not found in the dex normally, and add them in order to the end. So that's why it went from Celebi to Bulbasaur. And from Deoxys to Bulbasaur. The older Pokemon not found in that region normally are added to the -end- of the Pokedex. But again, no Pokemon of that region are included in the after-list. --Sidereal 10:03, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

None of you have considered that the order might be different this time. -- Plau 14:56, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

No, I've considered it. It just won't happen that way. Lucario is not a Legendary. They're not going to just randomly place a Legendary in the middle of the Pokedex. It's the same as the Starters. Therer were rumours of them being Fighting/Dark/Psychic. Perappu was supposed to be the first pure Flying type. Nintendo has proven to us over and over that while they may change some things, tradition won't be one of them. They're not going to change the starters, or change the way they set up the Pokedex. Lucario didn't even look like a Legendary to begin with, and was never even said to be one. Pure fan speculation led to that. -- Sidereal 12:13, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Incase no one ever told you guys, those numbers for Lucario and Dorapion were confirmed fake. And concerning the regional Pokedexes, Bulbasaur is NOT after Celebi in the Johto Pokedex, and Bulbasaur isn't even in the Hoenn Pokedex. The Psychic/Dark/Fighting starter trio is fake, and a pure-flying cannot exist. Nevertheless, Lucario is not a legendary. There is no proof he is, but rather ample proof that he is not. DanPMK 15:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Except that there is no proof he isn't except for YOUR ORIGINAL RESEARCH. Leave it ambiguous until you get the game, and then you can say whether he is or isn't 65.43.227.0—The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 01:54, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, Serebii announced Lucario's number is #113 just now. But again, it's not 100% confirmed. Make what you will of this, we'll know in due time. --63.135.20.33 21:02, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Lucario is officially not a legendary, as well as Manaphy, as they both have pre-evos as seen in the game's coding and at Serebii.net.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by ShadowUltra (talkcontribs) 22:54, 26 September 2006 (UTC).

[edit] confused about Rio and Lu

I do not understand why lucario is the 'wave guiding pokemon' and why rioru is the 'ripple pokemon'. i mean, neither of them are water type; and in 'lucario and the mystery of mew' lucario does nothing involving 'guiding waves' or anything involving water whatsoever. anyone care to explain this, before i go insane?!?!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 4.184.246.240 (talk) 20:19, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

I would assume it is because of the japanese "hadou" which, from what I've seen, could be interpreted as Wave-Guiding, Wave, Aura, Pulse, and probably other translations might come as well. 84.9.128.173 21:30, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Also, there are different types of waves in nature besides water waves. Wave is a very general term and could even be referring to waves of energy in Lucario's case. nChanq 17:44, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Telepathy

The article marks that Lapras talks with telepathy, so shouldn't it say that Lucario talked with telepathy as well? 84.9.128.173 21:22, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is this correct?

In the article, Lucario is described as being "the fifth speaking non-legendary Pokémon after Team Rocket's Meowth." I thought that Lucario IS legendary.
