Lucy Turnbull

Lucy Turnbull, Australian politician, is a former Lord Mayor of Sydney and is the wife of businessman and fellow politician, Malcolm Turnbull. Lucy held the position of Lord Mayor until early 2004, when the Australian Labor Party government, under Bob Carr, sacked and re-amalgamated the City of Sydney and South Sydney Councils. (Clover Moore is the present Lord Mayor of Sydney).
Lucy Turnbull is a member of the board of governors of the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, a respiratory and sleep research institute and a member of the advisory board of the National Portrait Gallery. She is the Chair of the Salvation Army's city of Sydney Red Shield Appeal for 2007 and the Commissioner of the Australian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale for 2006 and 2008. She is a member of the board of the Centre of Independent Studies. She is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations' Commission on Respect and Understanding, chaired by Amartya Sen.
In 1999 she published Sydney - Biography of a City. ( Random House) Lucy is also a director of investment company Turnbull & Partners Pty Ltd, and a director of Melbourne IT Limited, an Australian based intenet services company which provides global internet services. In early 2006 was appointed Administrator of Tweed Shire Council in northern NSW. She is a member of the Redfern Waterloo Authority. Her background is in commercial law and investment banking. Her husband won the Federal seat of Wentworth in the 2004 election. The Turnbulls have two children, Alex (who works for Fortress Investment Group in New York) and Daisy, who has recently completed her studies at university.
